Bonsai Bamboo – How to Care For Your Heavenly Bamboo

Bamboo is a fast growing woody perennial that adds beauty and interest to any landscape. It has been used for thousands of years in China and other parts of Asia to make furniture, doors, screens and more. The bamboo plant is also well known for its medicinal properties. It is rich in silica, which helps the body to heal and stay healthy. It also contains antioxidants that help to keep the skin looking healthy and young.

Bonsai heavenly bamboo can be cultivated in soil or water, but the best way to care for a bamboo is by using filtered water. This will eliminate the chemicals and fluoride that can cause the leaves to turn brown or wilt. When repotting, remove any old potting mix that has clung to the roots and replace it with fresh potting soil.

During the drier months, your bamboo may require a little extra humidity to thrive. A good way to provide this is by placing it in a small tray with a drip system that allows it to soak up the humidity and moisture. As with any other tropical or subtropical plant, your heavenly bamboo should be fertilized on a regular basis. A slow release (pellet based) fertilizer works best.

If you wish to incorporate the Chinese element of yin and yang, place a coin or two in the water or soil that your bamboo is growing in to represent the metal element. This will attract money and positive energy into your home.
