/r/bonsai is a moderated forum, so posts that are unrelated to bonsai or otherwise do not contribute to the discussion of bonsai will be removed without warning. You should also be aware that any posts that are inflammatory or personal insults will be deleted at the moderators’ discretion.
The main aim of this subreddit is to provide an unbiased forum for learning bonsai. This means that we do not support or endorse any particular style of bonsai, and will not tolerate personal attacks on /r/bonsai members.
If you have a question about a specific topic and cannot find an answer on the wiki, it’s probably best to post your question in the weekly beginner’s thread. This is monitored and answered by a large group of people, and it’s also archived so you can refer back to it if necessary.
Choosing Trees
The first thing you need to do is choose what kind of tree to start with. There are a large number of different species to choose from, each with their own aesthetic qualities that can be used for bonsai.
